Mae continues to do well at potty training with the exception of one component. She insists on taking off all clothes from the waist down (shoes and socks included). We then have to "line up" her underwear, pants, and socks so that she can re-dress herself when she's finished. One morning, as she followed me into the bathroom, I decided to use it as a teachable moment. This is the conversation that ensued:
Me: Do you see that Mommy can keep her pants on when she uses the potty? Do you think
you can do that?
Mae: I can do jumping jacks.
Me: Okay, do jumping jacks. (Thinking that she is trying to entertain me while I'm on the
potty.)
Mae: Oh, I not do them right now.
Teachable moment lost.
